I retired at Ft.Carson Jan.72 assigned to Divarty Hq. My book "The Phantom of Ben Het" does not cover Operation Wayne Grey, however, an annex to it does. My hypothesis is that the enemy was atttempting to open a route east in order to use a flanking movement in a yet to come offensive, that was to be launched from the Ben Het AO. My work is found in several areas on the www. During my Vietnam tour I was the S-2 for the 6/14 Arty. To link into my web page through 6/14 Arty. Go to Google and type in my name John D. My Brother-In-Law, SSgt. S. Whittaker is a member of the 216th Cmbt. Engineers out of Portsmouth, OH, attached to the 1st ID, currently serving in Iraq at Camp Speicher. We all miss him dearly and have recently found out that all leaves have been cancelled, because the Joint Task Force forgot to order the planes!!!! However, KBR employees are flying in and out of Iraq on military flights EVERY DAY. My brother in law is now going to miss the birth of his child and other soldiers in his unit have terminally ill parents that they can't get home to. This is a slap in the face of our soldiers. I am asking anyone from Ohio (especially South and Central) to contact your Senator and/or Congressman to voice a complaint about the disregard for our servicemen/women and their families.

Soldiers Angel Visited the wounded soldiers and marines in Landstuhl Medical Center
on Good Friday the 09th April 2004

I have wondered me many times what could I do more for the soldiers and now the marines in Iraq. So I have had the idea one day to go to the Landstuhl Medical Center, in Landstuhl. Together with good friends from me Irene, Manfred and Regina we all went to Landstuhl and for to say to all heroes “Thank you very much for fighting the war” and “Get well soon”, to all young American men and women who are putting their lives at risk in Iraq day for day for more as a year and now longer and nobody knows how long they have to do this. Our hours in Landstuhl have been a wonderful thing. The manager from the Landstuhl Fisher House has picked up us at the Gate 3 in front of the hospital at 2 pm. She has given us a wonderful warm hearted welcome. She is a great lady. After a short talk with her at the Fisher House, we went together with a group fight attendants from the AA-Airlines to the Hospital. They have brought to the wounded and the hospital a lot of girl scouts cookies. This was for us the first visit in a military hospital.

We have had 15 empty backpacks with us, which we have given the Fisher House for the wounded patients. This is something that they need so much to carry their belongings in it. I have read to go by Air Force further, all patients need backpacks or sport bags but not shopping bags. So we are glad that we could give something to make the trip to the US for the wounded soldiers and marines easier.

From Kristi from Florida, we have had with us a very large Easter basket too. She has sent it to me for to give it to a special hero. We have had luck, a SPC from Waterbury from the Connecticut Army National Guard, injured in a non-hostile incident in Iraq was in a barracks in Landstuhl. One of the officers told us that he will bring the basket to him on Easter. I will say to them, thank you very much for doing this and bring to injured soldiers a wonderful Easter basket. To lie down in a hospital far away from home and alone on a holiday is not so easy, for nobody! So we have thought we will bring 15 Easter bugs and 4 small Easter baskets with us with candies and chocolate to give it to wounded, injured or sick soldiers or marines, so we know that someone is thinking of them on Easter.

Backpacks
For us all it was a great honour to went together with the manager from the Fisher House to the wounded marines and soldiers and to give them the magnificent and useful backpacks, which have been dispatched to Landstuhl through Soldier`s Angels Foundation http://www.soldiersangels.org/, Keystone Soldiers and United Spinal Assoc. The backpacks we are given to the soldiers and marines have had a lot of good things in it - all things they need so much: Hooded Sweat Shirt, Military Brown T-Shirt, Black Sweat Pants Package of Boxers and Socks, 120 minute ATT calling card, CD Player (w/extra batteries), 1 Stick Deodorant, 1 (1.5 oz.) shave gel , 1 (2 oz.) bottle of Shampoo and Body Bath, 2 Disposable Razors, 1 (4" handle) toothbrush, with bristle cover, 1 (.85 oz.) tube of toothpaste and more goodies. Look at http://www.soldiersangels.org/first_response_pack.htm

I must tell you that the eyes from the marine have told me that they both were very surprised, to see the backpack and to see that people are thinking on them. And as they saw what the backpack contents, they could not believe it. But the greatest thing near all the things they need so much was the CD player, this was the best of all! It was a great thing to meet them and to see that they saw that people are looking for them. We have seen marines and soldiers lying in their beds, full of pain and with eyes filled with tears, who could not make any movement without pain. By every Hero we have visited we have seen that they appreciate our visit by them, sometimes they looked at first a little bit surprised, to see that Germans visit them and that our German group said to them “Thank you very much for the great job they all have done for us all” This was a great thing, to give them handshakes and this brought us tears in the eyes. And they told us always again and again, thank so much for doing this for us. Someone has taken his T-shirt directly out of the backback and Irene has helped him to do it over his wounded arm. Another marine told us how he was wounded in Iraq. It is always the same bad story you read day by day in the news…as he was speaking, you could see that his body was there, lying in the bed and in his thought he was fighting and wounded again. At first he has spoken normally, and step by step when he told us his story he was imaging the fight again so that he now begins to speak faster and faster and his eyes have seen the terrible pictures again. We think that all marines and soldiers were really pleased to have had a visitor. We have visited or spoken with about more as 15 marines and soldiers, in the hospital and in the Fisher House. A few have had serious medical problems I think a lot of them told me that they are going further to Walter Reed or Bethesta or to Texas for more medical care. I told them that they can give me an e-mail if they want that our group can do something for them here in Landstuhl or in Washington DC. The most of the wounded were alone there and their love ones are in the States, but a few family members have taken the opportunity to stay in the Fisher House and so they have the opportunity to look the whole day for their wounded family member. The Fisher House is a great thing. We all have seen that all the nurses, doctors, and all the other staff and the women and men from the Fisher House do a great job. And I am glad that I can work together with the Soldier`s Angels

Soldier, If You were to die right now, do you know for sure that you would go to heaven? Here is how you can know.
We are all sinners and deserve to go to hell. The Bible tells us that Jesus died to save us from our sins. All we have to do is : 1. Admit that we are a sinner, 2. Believe that Jesus died and three days rose again for our sins, 3. Confess yourself before God as a sinner. 4. Ask Him to come into your heart and save you.
If you have any questions, Please write to me at...

Thanks again for all you do. Remember For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. For the wages of sin is deatyh, but the gifty of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. For God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.

Well I hate to say, but my son didn't get his Christmas box. He's with 3rd bct A co. out of fort Carson. I think I know what happened. We were told to mail the boxws by Nov. 13th. (which I did) He came home on leave on the 17th and was here through Thanksgiving. The box probably arrived while he was here. It cost over $100 including the contents. But what really upset me was that I sent drawings from his sons, and I really wanted him to have the little Christmas tree. The place where I mailed it said there was nothing that could be done. It's over now, and I'm so thankful that he's coming home soon. I just wondered if anyone else had this problem. He said it was ok, but I just wanted him to have that box. Hopefully, he will get his Valentine box. and thankfully it's the last one. HOOAH! God bless all of our soldiers and I pray they will all come home safe. /r

Havent looked at the Gbook in a long time.Felt sadness to see 3 more kia in iraq this morning from 4div.Hopefully those vile saddam holdouts will start running low on munitions and bodies soon.Spent 3 Januarys in Viet in the Inf.I was in C 1/27 in ja 66 one of original 16 plt sgts in the Batallion. In Ja 67 Tho I had been hit twice I was the only Remaining Plt Sgt of the originals. In late dec 66 was on a bad op north of the plain of reeds and knew it was my last and had to make it thru.In Ja 69 was plt sgt A 1/8 and field 1st sgt and the tet 69 nva offensive was just tuning up.Tet 69 peaked for me and many young A 1/8 troops on March 12,69 in a super bad shootout at plei trap.I almost lost my right leg and it was my 5th wound.Just an old trooper and lucky to make it thru.If it had not been for the many fine young men who stood with me that bad day I probably wouldnt be around now.I Hope and pray this war in iraq ends soon and they come home with no more loss--SINCERELY Don White--SGTWHITE@PRONTOMAIL.COM

I served with D company 1/8 from Dec 1969 to March 1970. After 1/8 rotated home I transfered to C company 1/12. I am looking for anyone who might remember me. I have a hard time remembering names but I remember Frank Green, Ronnie Rogers and Robert Bugni(bugs). I found this web page and was looking at pictures and I have some of the same pictures in my album but don't remember names. Email me if anyone remembers. a.wall@mchsi.com Thanks

Dear Soldier,

You do not know us but , we are glad that we can write to you a few lines and so we will wish you from whole heart on a very „unusually place“ a still and peace-loving Merry Christmas and a great and good Happy New Year and hope that you can celebrate your next christmas at home with your family. You are not alone this evening, we are thinking on you particularly. Take care for you all the time and we hope for you so much that you can go home fast. We know that you do a great job, a dangerous job, often not easy to do. Often you do not know who is your friend and how is your enemy. We know that your family and a lot of friends they are all waiting for you. Have a great and a good new 2004, the same for your camrades, and your friends and family.

GOD BLESS ALL YOU

I just want to thank all of the family and friends of soldiers serving on the other side. I am recovering here at Ft. Hood from injuries received on the battlefield. I was with 4-42 FA, part of 1st BDE 4ID, and have to say that now that I am on this side I am truly amazed. I (we) never realized how many people are pulling for us over there. From prayer groups, to large companies, every time I turn around someone wants to shake my hand. It's extremely gratifying to know that we are appreciated regardless of what may be reported. The fact of the matter is, some times you have to serve a higher purpose. Thank you again. God Bless the America, and all of the troops on the other side.

There are few words to describe what it is like to love a soldier who is serving. I won't even try. My son is due to go to Iraq in February 2004 for one year. I am learning from those of you who are there now, in hope that I can somehow serve my son and his battle buddies. I hate war, but oh, how I love our soldiers. God bless you all, you are in my prayers, and if you ever run into PFC Justin Walde, befriend him and tell him his mother says hello.

I really enjoyed reading the story about what it is like being a military mom. There is so much in that story that mothers who's sons are married and don't live at home but the feelings are the same. I feel it every day from friends, family and co-workers that don't ask anymore how is my son. I pray every night for all the military fighting for the freedom of the Iraq people. I to always where my mother's blue star pin. I hate to know that here in America people forget about the war going on since the big war is over. I feel it is worse over there now for our military then it was during the war. During the war it was much larger units together then now when it is less going out together on these patrols. I am not trying to down play the earlier war by no means, it was very dangerous then also but then a lot of America was proudly whereing the red, white and blue and it seems now that has been lost somewhere. I guess what I am trying to say is lets not forget our military over in Iraq lets keep the home fires burning for them and make them know we are doing that. Thank you for listening to my heart.

My mighty brother has fallen his life cut short by a war in a foreign land and barren soil his blood runs cold upon this ground Never to embrace his mothers arms never to kiss her cheeks once again never to see her smile again As she waits,a land far away a knock on the door and an embrace tears flow from the depth of her soul, that was once filled with love and hope My mighty brother has gone on to keep guard while we still march to a beat of hope, for peace these people to embrace My mighty brother, we will ban our hearts together, carry the fight on and bring you great honor and bring you home I wrote this for all the FAMILIES who have lost a Loved One while this war goes on. Please except the love I send with this and my deepest sorrow for you. Please may this all end soon.Troy if you are by chance to read this know that I love you. My brother PFC Williams is currently in iraq, I am so proud of him and pray for a safe return. He is out of Fort Carson, CO. he joined the army at 16 and left for infantry school at 17, just days after hs graduation. So far since he left I went to georgia to see him for family day and graduation, then he was off to colorado. Later last Oct one of our grandfathers passed away, so he got to come home ( oklahoma ) for the first time, it was a short stay he had to return before the funeral. Febuary of this year our other grandfather passed, so he was allowed to return again for couple of days. We are pretty close, since we are about 4 yrs apart, and I miss him alot, my little girl (3) is always asking about her uncle (she wonders if he will ever come home, I tell her that is why we pray for him every night). Hey Spc. Harrell good to hear from you. I know some soldiers in the 1-8 Infantry(MECH)unit. I know that the 1-8 has a lot of troops but we might know some of the same people. That is so great that you will have email now and again. Now hopefully you will be able to email your loved ones back home. My nephew is in the 1-8 out of Fort Carson. Would like to hear from you if you get the chance:ladylab55@msn.com. Take care and I am praying for all of our troops over in Iraq. God Bless Our Troops.

I'm in B Co. 3rd PLT 1-8 IN currently stationed around Balad, Iraq. We are stationed near or around the airfield we cleared here months ago. Ity is built up nicely. Most of our companies(not sure about HHC) will soon have E-Mail access every now and then. They just set up an "Internet Cafe" here on the airfield today. I'm just lucky enough to be one of the first ones to use it. Also I recognize alot of the guys whose families are writing on here. Just like to let you know your support means the world to us. Were also not stationed here on LSA Anaconda so we can only use it every couple of weeks. so stay tuned. Our recent Operation "Operation Black Flag" was a success with no friendly casulties. It just amazes me that their calling this a "conflict" with all this chaos over here. This thing is far from over. "Fighting Eagles-Strike Fear!"

Our son, SPC Corey Schlichter is in A Co. 1/8 Inf, 3rd BCT currently in Balad, Iraq. His last letter said local Iraqi vendors have set up stands outside the fence of the compound and sell the GI's sodas, food, ice cream, cigarettes, turbans, and even cook some local dishes and they get enough food for three for about $3. We hope they are staying safe and can return home soon to his wife of one week, Melissa. Godspeed.

I heard from my husband today!! He is with HHC 1-8th Infantry. He is somewhere around Balad (yikes!!) He called to tell me despite what I hear on the news he is Ok... He said that they were attacked again and this one was real close. He said that some of the unit went out and 'took care of the problem'. He sounded real good and was actually able to go and buy supplies (in his previous location they didn't have a phone, mobile PX, bottled water, or mail!!) So he was happy to eat some real food finally! I also want to say thank you for putting up this site. It has been a blessing and a great comfort to me to be able to keep up on whats going on and keeping track of where my husband is! Thank you! HOOAH!!

Welcome all A/1/8 brothers and sisters. How lucky we all are to live in a nation where freedom allows us to critisize our government, many peoples of the world do not have such luxury. This is especially important to remember today, our Independance Day. July 4, 1776 our forefathers signed a document advising the world that we would forever be a free people, to make our own choices, without interference from another government. The thing that continues to allow us to make those choices is our unending committment to our brothers and sisters in the military, who, by their choice serve our country so that we may all continue to be free. God Bless You All and keep you safe! Have a great holiday and don't forget the reunion at Tahoe.

My husband is with C Co. 2-8 INF 2nd PLT. This site has been a great way to get a sense of what all our soldiers are going through. It is full of great ideas and information. It helps me feel more aware of my hubands situation. Thank you for all the work you do to provide us with all this information.

My husband is currently serving with Alpha Company 1/8Infantry. He is a dismount in 3rd Platoon. I just wanted to let him know that Junior, Jade and I are so very proud of him and the job that hes doing over there, and even if he wasnt overseas we would still be proud. It takes one heck of a special man to stand in and do the job that other men take for granted. You have done such an outstanding job as a solider you made other people in your family want to be like you, thats why they joined. Please be safe in what you do, and rest assured we will all be waiting for you with open arms!

My son Kemau A. Whittington is a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th ID, 1/66. He's been a God send to me all of his young life. He has accomplished so much in such a short period of time yet taking on responsibilities of nuturing his two younger sisters. Just over a year ago he received his "Bachelor's Degree" and was persuing his Masters before the Iraqi Deployment. His sisters, wife, daughter and I miss him terribly and pray everyday all day that he returns home safely and soon. He is my oldest child and my only son and we need him home, as do all the other families of our men and women in Iraq. I pray hard that one day real soon Bush will decide that enough is enough and it's costing our homeland too much and get them out of there. God Bless Them All.

Bob, I would like to know, is there a way here in this guest book site where it would be safely able to e-mail other mothers, ect, when they ask for certain info concerning a particul unit? Espeacially when they are in the same state as we are. I noticed at the Ivy Legue guest book, e-mail address, as well as names are include. Surely they'rs is a way to mirror that advantage here and now. My e-mail address is jbrand1017@aol.com. I atticipate your quick reply.
